Team Fortress 2

The cross-over has long been a staple of prime time TV programming. The Jetsons went back in time to visit The Flintstones, Jay Sherman came to Springfield for a film festival and there was probably some episode where "Gray's Anatomy" and "Private Practice" came together that I never saw. Cross-overs in video games are more rare, usually just existing in two games from the same company. Valve has done this a bunch with Black Mesa references in "Portal," but they're also willing to bring other companies into the fold, thanks to "Team Fortress 2." The game's many updates have added items from games like "Skyrim" and "Monday Night Combat."

The latest non-Valve cross-over is promoting "Deus Ex: Human Revolution," which releases next week. The update adds eight new items, including some new guns and cosmetic options. Diligent "TF2" fans can access these guns for free through standard drops and trading, but the less patient can pre-order "Deus Ex" on Steam for instant access to them.

Cosmetic additions include cybernetic arms, flip-down sunglasses and fancy helmets from the future. The weapons are where things get a bit more interesting:

The Machina
Techno-fancy sniper rifle which deals 15% more damage when charged and can penetrate multiple players. On the downside, it can only fire when zoomed, so there's no chance of a lucky no-scope headshot.

The Diamondback
A magnum handgun which will likely pack a wallop both on your arm and on the person you're shooting. The spy is rewarded for destroying engineer structures with his sapper, adding an automatic crit to this gun for every structure blown. Unfortunately, when not shooting criticals, the gun does 15% less damage and can never got a random critical.

The Widowmaker
A shotgun which converts enemy hits into more ammo, so you never have to reload. Watch your resource stores, though, as it uses metal for ammo.

The Short Circuit
An electricity-based arm cannon which can damage both players and projectiles in range. This too uses metal for ammo and can not get random critical hits.
